Councillor Colleen Fanning is serving her first term on the Council, having been elected in November 2015 to represent District 2. Colleen is committed to focusing on the issues important to Indianapolis with bipartisanship, fiscal accountability, and problem-solving innovation. She currently serves as a member of the Metropolitan & Economic Development, Parks and Recreation and Administration and Finance Committees of the Council.
Fanning is a 12-year resident of Broad Ripple Village, graduating from Emory University with a B. A. in Linguistics and Educational Studies. During college, Fanning worked at the Emory Autism Resource Center, teaching preschoolers cognitive language development. As a Harvard Kennedy School WorldTeach volunteer, she started an English learning center in the Galapagos Islands to promote ecotourism. Passionate about helping small businesses thrive, Fanning has been active in the Indy Chamber for a decade, serving as President of the Indy Chamber Ambassadors in 2012 and sitting on both the Indy Chamber Board of Directors and Membership Marketing Committee. Fanning attended the Leadership Exchange to Portland, Oregon with Mayor Ballard’s delegation in 2012.
Fanning owns 2 small businesses, Grey Market Wine and Ike & Fritz Ventures. She is a graduate of the United Way of Central Indiana’s Leadership United. Fanning lives with her husband Dr. Jeff Bowman and their boisterous rescue pup Wile E. Coyote.
